Tom Morello, The Nightwatchmen opened the show and despite my low expectations, he put on a stellar set…his new material rocked hard live, very rage inspired. Then Incubus put on a great, mellow set. Tix bought off of ebay.

Got last minute tickets off ebay because this was a concert we could not miss. Very similar to the last tour but it was a great night and the new songs from Wasting Light sounded awesome. Our seats were in the 100 level directly in front of the stage, which put quite a bit of distance between us and the band, until Dave used a rising platform directly in front of us. An awesome show as usual. (we missed openers The Doughboys and Fucked Up)
$80.00

Sloan – Echo Beach 08/05/2011

When Mike and I went to see Daniel Tosh the week before, we were talking about how it’s been a while since either of us had seen SLOAN. It just so happened that they were going to be doing a free show at the new Echo Beach venue at Ontario Place, so it seemed like a no-brainer.

Mike, Tracey and I met up with Mark at the front gates and went to the beach. They weren’t kidding. The venue is basically a small sandy beach, with pavement surrounding it, so only the first few feet in front of the stage are sand free. For the opening act Whaletooth, we hung back, had a beer etc. We got closer during the second band Modern Superstitions, who seemed to be a carbon copy of the first and then around 9:30pm it was time for SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAN.

As usual, they put on a great show. We were standing right at the front of the stage, directly in front of Jay. They tore through songs new and old with barely a break. There were a few funny moments where a little bit of rust started to show, but they were usually corrected quickly. During the early going there was a douchebag in the audience and Chris added “Get him out!” to the lyrics of a song, directing security to bounce the jerk 😉

Right near the end of the show, Chris pointed in our direction and basically gave a rock on shout out to the person with the glasses…. everyone in the area was wearing glasses, so we are all convinced he was recognizing OUR awesome rocking out.

SLOAN SETLIST:
Follow the Leader
The Answer Was You
Unkind
Underwhelmed
Losing California
The Lines You Amend

If It Feels Good Do It
C’mon C’mon (We’re Gonna Get It Started)
