Marvel’s The Avengers Canadian Premiere – Scotiabank Theatre 04/30/12

Mary and I waited out in the rain for 4 hours, trying to score rush tickets to the Canadian Premiere of Marvel’s The Avengers. I was dying to see the film and HAD to be at this special screening. While waiting, we got some free stuff from a Disney rep – Avengers Hat, Shirt, Buttons, Mini-Poster. With about 30 minutes to go, a generous stranger gave us his extra tickets and we rushed into the theatre, where we got a pair of the limited edition Real D 3D glasses (Hulk and Iron Man Style). Then we hit the red carpet to try and see Cobie Smulders and Mark Ruffalo. Mary got Mark to sign a few blu-rays and dvds and then they made their way into the theatre for a very short Q&A intro to the film. The movie was excellent and on the way out, I found a pair of Thor 3D glasses, so almost got a complete set! It was a great night that I will remember for a long time.

Seether, Bush & Nickelback – Air Canada Centre 04/22/12

I used to LOVE the band Bush – so the fact they hadn’t played in Canada for nearly a decade meant that I had to see them. Their comeback album was an underrated gem and I really needed to catch them live again (I use the term ‘them’ loosely, since Gavin Rossdale is the only original member still playing in the band). I decided last minute to check out this show since I was able to get a Floor ticket. The crowd got warmed up by My Darkest Days, who sounded fine but really play up the douche-rocker image. Next up was Seether, who I really enjoy but the crowd was left kind of cold until they played a few bigger hits towards the end of their set. Bush killed it, with Gavin living up to his rockstar image, getting the crowd involved and playing a lot of the vintage material. He even went into the crowd for ‘Come Together’ and was walking up and down the aisles of the ACC – it was crazy! My only complaint was that the barely played anything off the new album, which I really enjoy. It was worth the trip. Nickelback then took the stage and did their thing – it might not be for everyone but they know how to put on a redneck fueled, fire filled show. They sound record perfect, make it look effortless and had a flying spaceship platform that went over the audience – very cool.

Ed Sheeran opened the show to many screams from a loud group of tweens. He wasn’t comfortable and kept telling them to quiet down, shushing the crowd multiple times…he played what seemed like 4 of the longest pop songs of all time in his 30 minute set. Snow Patrol put on a great show as always.
